The Pakistan Demographic and Health Survey is a stratified, two-stage random sample covering urban and rural areas of Pakistan's four provinces, excluding specific regions. It uses sampling frame of 1998 Census. The survey included 972 out of 1,000 primary sampling units, covering 95,441 out of 102,037 households and 10,023 out of 10,601 ever-married women.
Six types of questionnaires were used in the PDHS: the Household, The Women and Child Verbal Autopsy, the Woman's and Husban’d (men) questionnaires. In addition, interviewing teams measured the height, weight and arm circumference of all respondents' children under age five. (for details please see Sample Design Section of Chapter 1, Main Report).
