The Pakistan Demographic and Health Survey has sample design of stratified random sample selected in two stages, from the PGPHC 2017, covering urban and rural areas of the four provinces of Pakistan and Gilgit Baltistan, defined as such in the 1998 Population Census. The survey included 580 primary sampling units, covering 11,896 out of 12,815 sampled households, 13,118 out of 12,364 ever-married women and 3,634 out of 3,145 ever-married men.
Six types of questionnaires were used in the PDHS: the Community, Household, the Woman's and Husband’s questionnaires. In addition, interviewing teams measured the height, weight and arm circumference of all respondents' children under age five. (For details please see Sample Design Section of Chapter 1, Main Report).
